It's early, but not too early.
I have made the rally point at the station in time to settle in and wait for the troops to gather. They are heading out on an all-volunteer effort to represent the Fire Service on a special project. I get to capture the scene.
When I arrive I don't ring the bell I wait in anticipation of movement on the apparatus floor to signal my presence, I don't have much of a wait. An early arrival for shift grants me permission to enter.
I take up a position between the apparatus and quietly observe. The lights are dim, the room is silent and the morning routine is underway. I purposely avoid taking my loud voice into the quarters or kitchen, no sense making a conundrum.
There is an early morning hush.
That's when I see it... again. I capture the image.
I "Re see" the turnout gear staged on the floor near each crew members assigned position for this rig. You have seen it too, its a significant signal - don't take it for granted. It means, they are "Ready at a moments notice."
The lights are dim, the room is quiet, the rig is poised for departure... who will the Fire Department be seeing when the lights come on and the call to roll comes?
This is the quiet before the storm.
